When choosing a new sink, it's important to select the correct sink size to fit into your new or existing base cabinet.
Visit Elkay.com prior to the purchase of your sink and/or base cabinet, to review our product pages and spec sheets that contain all the measurements you need to consider when purchasing a new sink and/or base cabinet. We recommend the cabinet be 3" wider than the overall sink length to account for the cabinet wall thickness. This will allow enough room inside the cabinet for ease of installation of the mounting hardware.
Also, review the installation instructions available under the Downloads tab of the product page of the sink(s) you are considering. Some sinks require a custom base cabinet for proper installation.
Measuring Your Sink and Base Cabinet
Before removing your existing sink, measure the overall left-to-right and depth of your existing sink. Next, measure the front-to-back of your existing sink and use the overall front-to-back measurements from the spec sheet (or your new sink if you've already purchased it) to confirm you have enough countertop space between the sink and the backsplash to install your faucet and any accessories.
Remove your existing sink and measure the length and the width of the countertop cutout opening. Measure the corner radius of the cutout to verify the corners of the new sink will cover the current cutout radius.
If your current base cabinet has a tip-out tray, check that the new sink bowl will not interfere with its function. If your base cabinet has enough space, any model sink that has a standard drain opening or Perfect drain will allow for the attachment of most garbage disposals.
